FLYING SOUTH
I saw 2 geese flying in tandem
on a recon mission for their flock.
During the summer at Overpeck Park
one of the geese sat on my shoulder
and spoke to me in Morse code
pecking in my good right ear.
He and his friend would scout for
watering holes and find the juiciest
worms for their family and friends.
Attuned to the anticipation of winter,
which might be full of surprises
due to the plague of climate change,
the two geese were as prepared
as Navy Seals to endure the safe
pasage of their fellow geese.
